Opening Doors to Latino Families - [Summary Source: ASCD SmartBrief, March 4, 2005] Three professors of education at the University of Texas at Brownsville share what they learned when their university established an evening reading-improvement program with a local elementary school. The authors argue that family involvement programs must adapt to local culture and needs. People organizing a family involvement program need to consider certain general factors that affect participation rates: convenient meeting times, transportation, and available child care.
