If you are looking for an evening of sidesplitting entertainment, Houston's Laff Stop should be first on your itinerary.

"The Laff Stop is the best comedy club in the country as far as local talent goes," said Mark Babbitt, operating partner. "Many famous people got their start here."

Well-known comedians such as Rosie O'Donnell, Ellen DeGeneres, and Dave Chappelle have set foot on stage at the Laff Stop, the oldest comedy club in Texas.

The Sept. 28 line-up of entertainers included opening acts by Bryan Hurzie, Ben Mowbray and host Joni Kayote, followed by headliner Louis CK.

CK is a fabulous performer from New York. Not only has he written scripts for the David Letterman show, Conan O'Brien show, and short films such as "Caesar's Salad" and "Ice Cream," but he also recently won an Ace Award.

His comic performance kept the crowd's energy level high. CK's thoughts and opinions of how to get rid of racism and how to get out of a ridiculous situation were hilarious.

However, even more impressove than his talent, he is contributing all his proceeds from his compact discs and tapes to the American Red Cross for victims in New York.

The easy-going atmosphere at the Laff Stop makes for a comfortable evening.

It is a great place to go either on a date or with a group of people. It is really nice to relax among friends and enjoy some time, free of worry and distraction.

"This is a neat place to work, it really keeps my spirit up," said Tresa Riley, a Laff Stop staff member. "I sometimes even come up here on my day off and just sit in the back and relax."

Overall, the service was good, drink and snack prices were reasonable, and the entertainment was remarkable.

Houston's Laff Stop is located at 1952 W. Gray (in the River Oaks shopping center). Ticket prices vary by featured performer and day of performance. Show times are Monday 7:30 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday 8:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday 8 and 10:30 p.m. and Sunday 8 p.m.
