PeopleSoft gets mixed reaction
by Marqueita Sam
Beginning in November, students were able to register over the Internet as well as by telephone.
The new registration system will allow students to view current schedules and grades. It will also
provide extended registration periods, academic advising audit reports, and the ability to drop and
withdraw from classes through the Web or by telephone.
Students have mixed feelings about the new registration system. Some expressed their dislike for
the new system, stating that it took longer to register and was not user-friendly.
"I have tried the new online system and I really did not understand how to navigate through the
system," said Tonya Archeneaux, an undergraduate business major. "I have also tried to register online
,
and I could not get a confirmation on the classes I enrolled in or how much I needed to pay. It kept
sending me in circles. I had to call the Office of Enrollment to get help with the system."
But many students also feel the new registration system is beneficial for UH-Clear Lake and its
students. Maria Trahan, a student worker for Enrollment Services, said that her experience with the
new registration system has been quite positive. She stated that it is better than the old system, and
it has helped to make her registration a good experience.
Others observed no real change between the old system and the new. "I have not really noticed a
difference between the old and the new," said Timika Tilford, an education major. "Previously, each
semester I registered, I would always use the phone, and then I was told that I could register online.
If anything, I did notice that we are able to register online, but other than that I do not see where
the improvement is."
More than 340 colleges and universities worldwide licensed or ordered the upgrade to PeopleSoft 8

Student Administration is the only global, pure Internet software solution that connects the
administrative, transactional and academic functions of higher education, according to Lisa Sion,

"PeopleSoft's pure Internet architecture means that the right data is available to the right person
in the enterprise anytime," said Tanya Brown, media contact for PeopleSoft.
