Vice President Denise Sellars and President Cathy Veniegasfrom the American Marketing
Association were just a few of the students recruiting at the Student Life Fair.

The student life office hosted its annual Student Life Fair Sept. 11 in Atrium II.

Representatives from more than 40 student organizations were on hand to talk to students about the benefits of being involved in activities on campus.

Several organizations provided pictures of past activities to give students a better idea of what the organizations do throughout the school year.

The fair also gave student leaders the opportunity to meet each other and find out what other clubs are doing on campus.

Each organization had its own schedule of events posted, which gave students an idea of what will take place on campus this semester. The organizations also provided packets of information for students to get a better idea of what the organization is all about. Although encouraged to do so, students do not necessarily have to join clubs to take part in club activities.

"We like to encourage people to participate even if they don't have time to join," said Sue Fellman, coordinator of student life. "The Student Life Fair has been successful in promoting campus organizations in the past."

Most organizations hold meetings on a regular basis, but some students cannot make the meetings because of their busy schedules. Students are invited to participate in activities whenever they can.

"The fair helps promote organizations. People on the way to class can come in and get applications and packets of information," said Heather Stuart, president of the Association for Childhood Education International.

"We bring in speakers to biweekly meetings, which allows students to network with professionals around the Houston area," said Cathy Veniegas, president of the American Marketing Association. Students in this association are also invited to activities with the Houston Professional AMA. This gives them the opportunity to meet with professionals and potential employers.

Sigma Tau Delta, the literature honor society, "sponsor[s] activities to promote literature and literacy in the community," said Sonia Hernandez, secretary. Sigma Tau Delta holds book drives for Texas Children's Hospital throughout the school year.

For more information or to find out how to join student organizations, check out the bulletin boards located throughout the campus or call The Student Life Office at (281) 283-2560.

The Student Life Office is located in the Bayou Building, Room 1602.
