Seventeen committees work together to represent the students of SGA. They oversee and produce policies for all aspects of campus life including academics, planning and assessment, resource allocation, library and computing services, and community and governmental relations.

In addition to student representation by committees in university operations, SGA provides input to the university through advisory boards and hearing panels, also through individual consultations with faculty, staff and administrators said Jeff Petry, SGA president.

"Participation in SGA is optional for each organization; however, there are many benefits to becoming involved," said Sue Fellman, coordinator of student life, student government and student organizations.

SGA provides a forum for student organizations to network with other organizations, to request funds for professional development and exchange information, Fellman said. Students can also gain valuable experience in organizational decision-making which can be utilized in one's career.

At a typical SGA meeting you will find many of the committee representatives, the four officers of SGA and a representative from many of the student organizations on campus.

"We are here as an outlet to hear student's problems and ideas and to direct the information to where it can be useful in initiating positive change," Petry said.
