The Galveston Arts Center, along with the Galveston Artwalk Committee, organizes an Artwalk every six weeks. Local galleries and studios join together to host an evening of visual art exhibit openings, receptions of new works by local artists and national touring art exhibits.

The latest Artwalk was Oct. 12, from 6 to 9 p.m. in downtown Galveston.

"I'm glad the Artwalk has been established, they have been a big help in promoting my business," said Sallie Anderson, artist and owner of Anderson Studio. "Not only do they help promote my artwork but also my art classes that I instruct."

Galveston's featured galleries and studios included: Buchanan Gallery, Sabe V Fine Art Gallery, Eibands Gallery, The Water's Edge Studio & Gallery, Imago Dei Gallery, Ellie's Decorative Painting, Old Galveston Square Artists' Lofts, Fru Fru & Fluff, Galveston County Historical Museum and Mosquito Café.

The works of the various artists featured ranged from watercolor paintings to visual interpretations of objects in, around and through glass, to artists using salvaged wood and tar to create interesting artwork.

"I've been sculpting for 12 years and I enjoy sculpting because I can make whatever I want, there are no boundaries or limitations," said Mike Quinn, demonstrating ceramics sculptor at Sable V Fine Art Gallery.

The artwork of the various artists featured seemed to be influenced from a variety of themes and concepts in today's society. The artwork and paintings displayed were original and each piece reinforced the different theme that the artist was trying to present to his or her viewers.

"I'm influenced by many things-popular culture, current events, friends, family and color," said Ellie Peters, artist and owner of Ellie's Decorative Painting.

The Artwalk has been an ongoing event for the past 16 years. Upcoming Artwalk dates are, Nov. 30, Jan. 11, Feb. 15, April 5, May 17, June 28 and Aug. 9.

Dress is casual, the exhibits are free and everyone is welcome to attend.
