Darlene Biggers, associate vice president for student services and dean of students, and Ron Mills, professor of science, headed the committee for the Big Dig. The event was scheduled to give recognition to students who helped make the building a reality and give dedication of the ground before construction begins in December.

Many students have worked on the project since it started in 1990; therefore, current and former students were invited to the ceremony to show appreciation for all those who helped.

Fellman lays foundation from the very beginning

The University of Houston-Clear Lake held the opening ceremony for the new student services building Nov. 19.

One of the most influential people along the way has been Sue Fellman, UH-Clear Lake's coordinator of student life.

As the president of the Student Organizations Forum,which evolved into the Student Government Association, Fellman helped to conduct numerous surveys to determine the need for the new building back in 1990. One of the biggest factors that pointed toward construction of a new facility was overcrowding for both students and faculty.
