Clydesdales promenade in Kemah

The weather was sunny and crisp as people lined the streets of Kemah Nov. 23 for the first Christmas in Kemah Parade.

Bright-eyed children full of excitement awaited the beginning of the parade, which began with a group of boy scouts marching with the American flag front and center. Several colorful floats passed including floats from car dealerships, art cars, Praise International Kids Ministry, Wal-Mart Supercenter, the Red Hat Society, a Patrol Torpedo Boat and Stewart Elementary's third grade class.

Some people on the floats threw candy, necklaces and stuffed animals to the children in the crowd.

"My favorite part of the parade was when I got the stuffed cat," said Alexis Houston, student at Labay Middle School.

The Anheuser-Busch Clydesdale horses made a triumphant entrance pulling Santa in a huge sleigh.

The art cars were randomly decorated in many different themes. One was decorated with newspaper, another as the game of Twister and another had eyes in place of headlights.

Fourteen-year-old Francisco Molina said his favorite part of the parade was "the art car when it was throwing bubbles."

Santa was spotted three times on several different floats.

"A little more organization may be needed for Santa next time," said Leslie Mann, a mother of two young boys. "Although many people don't play the game of Santa with their children, some do. Don't mess it up for everybody."

Any business, organization or group willing to decorate a float can participate in the Kemah parade.
