The International Institute of Education and Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City co-hosted the American University Recruiting Fair Oct. 9.

Jerry Rhodeback, executive director for International Initiatives, and H. Van Tran, professor of management information systems, visited Ho Chi Minh City Oct. 6-14 to represent UH-Clear Lake at the fair.

Twenty-three American universities were represented at the fair, which was attended by 2,200 Vietnamese students.

One hundred twenty-five students, along with their parents, attended a 3 1-2 half hour session hosted by UH-Clear Lake, Vietnam National University and the United States Consulate. Students learned about UH-Clear Lake and the programs it has to offer.

UH-Clear Lake has 28 graduate Vietnamese students as a result of the recruitment program. Within the next two years, more than 110 students plan to transfer from Vietnam National University to UH-Clear Lake.

Rhodeback visited University of Veracruz in Xalapa, Mexico Nov. 6-11 with Kate Finstad, director of distance education.

"The purpose of the visit was to explore ways in which our two universities could collaborate on projects of their new virtual university," Rhodeback said.

UH-Clear Lake hopes to expand its horizon with University of Veracruz and offer Web-based courses through the two universities.

UH-Clear Lake and University of Veracruz have collaborated on several projects for the past four years. The two universities have a faculty and student exchange program, along with the Bratis-lava School of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Mario Cruz Teran, exchange student from Xalapa, says this is a great experience for him.

"I am finding myself; the people here are great to work with," Teran said.

Teran is working on art projects during his visit to UH-Clear Lake.
