UH-Clear Lake hired Dan Berry as the new associate vice president of facilities management and construction. Berry officially assumed responsibility for the department Feb. 18, and relieved Dan Wilson, who served as the interim director since September 2001.

Berry takes over the department, which has a current personnel count of approximately 70, in the midst of a strong gearing up process for the new building scheduled for construction in 2003.

"One of my first priorities will be to learn the campus here, but getting everything set up for the new building will certainly be one of my high priorities," Berry said.

After receiving his bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from Louisiana State University, Berry continued on to complete his master's degree in environmental engineering at Tulane University in New Orleans. He is a licensed professional engineer as well as a licensed general contractor in the state of Louisiana. He plans to get licensed in the state of Texas as well. Prior to coming to UH-Clear Lake, Berry served as the director of facilities at the Tulane Health Sciences Center for 15 years.

"I lived in Houston before attending school and working for a number of years in Louisiana," Berry said. "Taking this position at the University of Houston-Clear Lake was a way for me to come back."
