UH-Clear Lake faculty members are exhibiting art collections at the Plaza Johnson Gallery in Dickinson which opened March 9.

The gallery, located at 2110 Pine Drive, exhibits artwork in creations from watercolor to ceramics. The pieces are for sale with prices ranging from $40 to $500.

Currently on exhibition is the show "Made in Texas," based on Leslie Johnson's thesis work. "Made in Texas" will be on display until April 9. Johnson is the gallery director and an adjunct instructor of photography.

"All of the artists have been doing this kind of media anywhere from 20 to 30 years, so they have been at it for a while," said Johnson. Most of the pieces displayed have been made recently and each artist has exhibited regionally in the past.

Sandria Hu, art professor at UH-Clear Lake, contributed original solar plate chinecolle etchings.

"The images are based on my interpretation of the landscape environment where I live and work," said Hu. "Solar plate etching is a high-tech printing technique which is a light-sensitive and light-hardening polymer plastic laminated on a thin steel sheet. I just started printing in this process in the last three years and have been extremely happy with the medium."

Hu recently won her third Fulbright scholarship and will be attending the University of Veracruz, Mexico in 2003 to work as an artist.
