College prepares for budget crisis

Budget cuts continue to plague the state of Texas. A state mandate, ordered by Gov. Rick Perry, requires state education facilities to reduce their budget to help relieve the statešs budget shortfall.

Education agencies throughout the state have already suffered reductions for the current 2002-2003 school year.

Local dignitaries honored at ceremony

Local dignitaries, including Sen. Mike Jackson, University of Houston System Chancellor Arthur K. Smith, UH System Board Chairman George McDavid and UH-Clear Lake President William Staples, broke ground on the new Student Services and Classroom Building Feb. 21 in the Bayou Building.

The ceremony, originally scheduled to be held outside on the east side of the building, was moved indoors because of predicted bad weather.

Doyle delivers final blow: pleads guilty

Former UH-Clear Lake Associate Professor of Psychology Patrick Doyle, 60, pleaded guilty to the murder of his stepfather Robert McGown, 79.

At a Feb. 21 hearing held at Warrant County 8th Judicial Circuit Court, Doyle changed his original plea of innocent to guilty but mentally ill.
