Student Government Association electing officers

Applications for positions in the Student Government Association and the five Shared Governance Committees for 2003-2004 were made available February 11 and are due by 5 p.m. March 25.

Candidates for the SGA position of President, Vice President-Committee Coordinator, Vice President-Student Outreach Communications, and Vice President-Administration must attend an election meeting March 28. Voting will take place April 8, from 11:30 a.m. to12:30 p.m. in room 2515 of the Bayou Building.

Although all UH-Clear Lake students may apply, minimum requirements must be met. The requirements include: a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above, student must be enrolled in at least one class, and the student must be a member of a student organization immediately after being elected.

Interested students must also be able to spend a minimum of 10 hours a week working in his or her elected position, including attending SGA meetings every Tuesday 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

"I encourage anyone who might want to be a part of the executive council to contact us so that we can discuss the opportunities that are available," said Jeff Petry, president of SGA.

Applications are also available for Student Governance Committees including the Educational Policy and Courses Committee, Facilities and Resources Committee, Library Research and Computing Committee and the University Planning Committee.

These committees work with the development and organization of all facets of university business.

All student committee positions include one graduate and one undergraduate student serving a one year term, except for the Student Life Council, which serves for two years. All interested applicants should be willing to spend at least 6.5 to 8.5 hours per month for committee business.

Application deadlines for all interested participants are March 25, no later than 5 p.m. Elections for all Shared Governance Committees will be held April 1.

"Being part of SGA is an opportunity all students should consider." Petry said.

Applications for both the SGA Executive Council and the Shared Governance Committees are available in the Student Life Office, room 1602 of the Bayou Building.
