Dear Gabby:
My fiance is serving the country as a marine in the war with Iraq. I find myself unable to concentrate on work or school because I am constantly worrying about him.

I literally sit in front of the TV for hours watching the news coverage to make sure he is OK. I know I should be proud of him for representing our country, but I am really just scared I may never see him again. How do I get through this time alone?

Going Crazy

Dear Going Crazy:
Unfortunately no one knows just how long this war will continue, and inevitably there are going to be casualties.

I know it is hard, but try not to focus on the worst-case scenario. Focus on the good things that can result from this situation. Put your trust in his training and know that he is already a hero to our nation.

The media gives you a glimpse of most aspects of the war, and watching the coverage can give you a connection to your fiance while you are apart. Watch the news to keep yourself updated on this aspect of his life while he is away, rather than expecting to see bad things. He would not want you to live in constant fear. There are a lot of people who feel the same things you do for their own friends and family.

If you go on the Internet, you will find many Web sites and chat rooms designated for people who have loved ones away at war.

It gives you the chance to express your emotions to someone else going through it. You can read other people's letters, which will further educate you on the war and give you a different insight.

Talking to someone will give you the chance to get away from the TV and allow you to get out your most personal feelings, instead of keeping them bottled up inside.

Good luck. I will keep your fiance, and all of the troops, in my thoughts and prayers.
