Freedom of speech protects KKK rally

"The people united will never be defeated," were the words being shouted in unison outside the Webber Community Center in Santa Fe, Texas, April 5. Ku Klux Klan members congregated inside the community center while protesters rallied against them outside.

Residents of Santa Fe were upset with Mayor Joe Dickson for allowing the Ku Klux Klan to rent the community center for their meeting. Dickson told reporters that he had spoken with the city attorney about the situation. The city attorney said that the community center was a public building and they could not refuse to rent it to the Klan.

Abortion: Parental guidance suggested

"Right now, pregnant females 17 and under have to notify parents of a planned abortion; it's called parental notification law. State Rep. Phil King has presented House Bill 945, which would change the law to parental consent," said Cris Perez, vice president of communications and marketing for Planned Parenthood of Houston and Southeast Texas.

If passed, the new law will require young women to not only notify their parents of a pending abortion, but to also get consent from their parents.
