Neon Art in Texas opened with a reception April 4 at The Arts Alliance Center in Clear Lake.

The exhibit is a 32-piece display of neon artwork from 12 artists.

Works range from Fritz Ozuna's Contemplating the Past, which integrates neon light and acrylic polymer on wood, to Jayne Lawrence's whimsical Solipism, a glass fairy tale ball gown lit by neon from the inside.

This is a wonderful and innovative display of talented artists.

Some contributed art in the form of signs, such as Jayne Lawrence's flashing Mama's Boy, Daddy's Girl, while others added a touch of humor. Gary Sweeny's Keep Up the Good Work is a giant postcard with a supportive message from a friend. Sweeny highlighted various words on the card to state, "Gary I think your work is crap" in neon red.

This exhibit is perfect for nighttime display, but is still beautiful during daylight hours.

The artists used fiber optics, wood, automotive parts, aluminum and various other media to compliment the neon lights.

All pieces are on sale, with prices ranging from $400 to $20,000.

This isn't your typical art exhibit. It is impossible to walk by any of the pieces and not stop to study the intricate uses of metal, glass and light.

Neon Art in Texas will be on display at the Arts Alliance Center in Clear Lake through May 2.

The Arts Alliance Center is located at 2000 NASA Road 1, and is open to the public Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free.
