University of Houston-Clear Lake Office of Communications received an award for design excellence from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education District IV, for the front cover of the fall 2002 issue of the university’s alumni magazine, the Egret.

“The Egret is the university magazine produced by the UHCL Office of Communications and is distributed to key external audiences including alumni, donors, legislators and friends of the university,” said Theresa Presswood, director of communications.

CASE is an international association of education advancement professional in alumni relations, communications and development. District IV includes colleges in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Mexico.

“The competition included 53 categories ranging from large-scale development, alumni or institutional relationship programs or special events in print, video and online publications,” Presswood said.

UH-Clear Lake has received five CASE awards since the publication’s creation in 1994.

The magazine was designed by Rebecca Trahan, of Barking Dog Design in Houston, and the award-winning photograph on the cover was taken by Beryl Striewski Photography of Houston. Sheshe Giddens, UH-Clear Lake publications coordinator and Egret managing editor, accepted the award on behalf of the university at the CASE District IV annual conference in Little Rock, Ark.

“We are very proud of this recognition by CASE of our communications activities including university publications,” said President William Staples. “Through their professionalism, our dedicated staff has facilitated University of Houston-Clear Lake’s ability to reach our constituencies in a high-quality manner.”
