You do not have to travel far for a day of family fun. The Kemah Boardwalk, a 14-acre outdoor entertainment complex, is less than 15 miles from the UH-Clear Lake campus.

The Kemah Boardwalk is a family-oriented waterfront entertainment complex offering shopping, amusements and dining for the family.

The Boardwalk hosts special events year round. This summer’s Rock the Dock series kicks off May 8 with the first concert series.

Visitors can enjoy a variety of music every Thursday night. Local and statewide bands play the blues, country and rock music, among other music styles. The Rock the Dock concert series ends Sept. 4.

The Spring Kid’s Festival will be held May 31 to June 1.

Families can enjoy two days of activities and entertainment geared toward children including: ice cream making, face painting, pony rides, clowns, magic shows, live music, street performers and educational exhibits.

“This is our first time here, and we have never been anywhere like this before,” said Les Diaz, a Plano, Texas resident. “We came here to Kemah on business and came to the Boardwalk to relax while we’re here. I can’t wait to eat at the Aquarium.”

The Boardwalk offers more than ten restaurants providing waterfront dining and a variety of cuisine.

Joe’s Crab Shack, Landry’s Seafood House, The Aquarium – An Underwater Dining Experience, The Flying Dutchman, and The Cadillac Authentic Restaurant are a few of the restaurants on the Boardwalk.

Family amusements are around every corner. A Ferris wheel and carousel offer traditional family fun.

“My husband and I brought our daughter for the first time, and we can’t get her off the carousel,” said Robyn Villarreal of Richwood, Texas.

The Boardwalk also includes the ride Pharoah’s Fury, Midway carnival games and the Boardwalk Arcade.

The dancing fountains, located at the heart of the Boardwalk, offer sprinkling fun for children. You can skip the walking and take a tour of the complex on the C.P. Huntington, the Boardwalk’s gas-powered train.

Visitors can also enjoy a day of shopping at The Shops at Kemah located on the Boardwalk.

With more than 10 specialty retail shops, there is something for everyone.

Some of the shops include: The Tabasco Country Store, Kemah Outfitters, Toy Crossing and the Thomas Kinkade Gallery.

The Kemah Boardwalk Marina is a state-of-the-art marina facility with 424 boat slips located at the waterfront of the Boardwalk. It is the marina located closest to the Galveston Bay.

If you want to make the Boardwalk your weekend destination, you can stay at the Boardwalk Inn.

The marina resort boasts an elegant seaside atmosphere for families with rooms overlooking the Boardwalk.
